STEAM Honors Design and Development Senior Capstone Project
Sean Jordan
Market / Real world research
My first steps on my project were looking at inventions that were already created and looking at how we could possibly improve on them.
Problem definition
Next we had to figure out what problem we were going to face and learn more about this problem.
Finally I realized what i wanted to do which was create a water bottle cap that makes water bottle flavoring easier.
First prototype
Professional review night
This was what I had ready for my project by the first trimester
Video Trailer
This was made to depict the issue my invention would try to fix.
3D print
I was using tinker cad to create my project and this was the last one i created for the expo.
Final
This was my final project for the expo
Project thoughts and considertaions
What the big goal of your project was
My biggest goal of my project was to have a working example but I did not finish it but I was able to fully display the issues I was trying to fix with it. I may not have been able to create a working model but it was enough to be able to present.
How your project changed over time, from conception to completion?
The one thing about my project that I enjoy the most is you can see the change through all of the prototypes. I had to change the size of the bottle to make it fit better on, I also changed placement of the straw and put it on a different part to make it work better on the 3D printing
What your project’s final state at the Expo was.
Incomplete but presentable. I had many of the previous prototypes all laid out so you could see the evolution of the project and I had a model of what I wanted the inside of the cap to look like
Explain what the three most challenging parts of working on this project have been.
1. creating a cap that all dimensions work and can screw onto each other easily and not be too small or too big.
2. Time management. I would have to change up my 3D model and then print it but while I was waiting for it to print i could of been working on other aspects of it to make it betterÂ
3.
what the three most rewarding parts have been as you’ve worked on this project.
1. Finally getting certain parts of my project to work with each other
2. doing the expo and realizing I am stressing over nothing. I did a lot better than IÂ originally thought I was going to do
What's the big take away from this WHOLE STEAM experience? How are you going to use these past 4 years to launch you forward? What lessons, thoughts, abilities have you developed that can now serve as your foundation for future steps forward?
I have learned that I can push on and do anything I wish to do, I had to learn many different things during the steam classes and no matter how hard it was I pushed on. Another skill IÂ learned was you can dig yourself in a hole but in the real world, you will have to face it. I've done this multiple times and I have had to learn to dig myself out of it
